Association Venue of the Month: ICC Birmingham
This month our team headed to the ICC Birmingham to deliver one of our clients events. We loved working alongside the ICC and the event was a huge success. It was a busy couple of days, with many sessions taking place simultaneously across the venue. The ICC meeting rooms were perfect for this format, with most rooms situated close to the main exhibition and plenary theatre.
We caught up with Ian Taylor, Managing Director for Conventions and Exhibitions at the NEC Group about why he thinks the venue works well for associations.
“We host a number of associations at the ICC Birmingham, which often become repeat events as delegates and event organisers develop an attachment to the city and our venue.
Where is it?
With its handy central location, it is easy to reach by public transport or by car. Birmingham New Street is only a 11 minute walk away. there is a plethora of hotels within walking distance and you get to see Centenary Square and Birmingham Town Hall on route.
“It also helps we are located at the heart of the transport network. We are an easy destination for the national and international audiences to reach, with accessibility via car, train and plane.”
Whilst onsite our team stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn which was only a 5 minute walk from the venue. This made life much easier, especially for the early start onsite before the event.

Why ICC Birmingham?
“An area we consistently hear from associations is the proven track record and experience our event teams hold, as well as our enthusiasm to deliver memorable events. With over 30 years’ experience of hosting large and small-scale conventions which celebrate sharing expertise and networking, we know what our associations need, and how to deliver a valuable experience for delegates.”
This was apparent to us onsite. The staff were very helpful from the outset, and the food served at lunch was delicious!
The ICC Birmingham’s Hall 3 seats an impressive 3,000 delegates at maximum capacity and has a flexible layout. Thanks to the handy location right next to the registration area, delegates are also able to quickly and easily make their way around the event.
The event we held at the ICC made great use of the space hosting the exhibition, whilst Hall 1 was used as the main plenary seating up to 1500. We also had about 8 workshops onsite making use of the smaller halls available.

We really enjoyed our time at the ICC Birmingham and look forward to holding our next event there in the future.
