Association venue of the month, ExCeL London
We are pretty sure you have heard of ExCeL, the flagship events venue in London. Attending events at ExCeL is exciting for organisers and delegates alike; from the buzz on arrival and the first glimpse of the building, to being able to see your brand displayed on the many media locations both inside and outside
With all the developments taking place over the next coming years, including the transformational new east to west London high speed rail link, ExCeL is one of the key global players in hosting congresses and association events.

We caught up with Samantha Shamkh, Head of Conventions at ExCel London following the ABPCO Conference held at ExCel in December.
“ExCeL London prides itself on having the experience and environment to host the broadest range of association events from ESC (European Society of Cardiology) the largest medical congress in Europe, to congresses for national associations such as Diabetes UK and national one day association meetings. Whatever the size or type of event, the venue offers outstanding spaces for any multi-disciplinary programme for learning, including spaces for delegates to share best practice informally and network with colleagues and peers. More recently in October 2021 we hosted EACS (European AIDS Clinical Society), the first truly hybrid medical congress to take place in Europe.”
Where is it?
“Located in east London, there is an invaluable opportunity for any association to establish a meaningful legacy from their congress. Together with an established network of local stakeholders from charities to NHS providers and schools, we can help PCOs and organisers extend the impact of the event beyond the open days.
Our on-campus event eco-system includes 13 hotels and plenty of restaurants and bars for socialising and fringe events. A five-minute cable car ride away is Greenwich Peninsular with yet more choice of restaurants, bars and entertaining spaces. With the opening of the Elizabeth line, London’s latest investment in its railway infrastructure running east to west across the city, the districts of Canary Wharf, the City of London, the West End and of course, Heathrow Airport, are in even easier reach of ExCeL.”
On-site there are 1,700 parking spaces, but it is also very well connected by public transport. London City Airport is a 4-minute drive or a 20-minute walk away, and Stratford International for the Eurostar is a 25-minute journey, with other airports and mainline stations within easy reach. With over 13 hotels on the ExCeL campus and many more a short distance away, attendees have numerous options depending on budget.

Why ExCeL?
“Whether you are looking for flexible, multi-purpose event halls, state-of-the-art conference facilities or smaller meeting rooms, we are confident there is a space for you.
Hosting a congress or association meeting at ExCeL is about more than the event space. Our customer-focused team and unique location ensure your delegates and sponsors are at the heart of everything we do.”
You can find out more about their plethora of spaces here.
One of the reasons we love ExCeL is the possibilities, see some examples here, the spaces give you the ability to be creative and make the space your own. We can’t wait to see the developments on site in the next few years, including the new extension to the International Convention Centre.
